Dr Lerm fulfilled her dream of specialising in this field by completing her postgraduate degree (MMed) at the University of Cape Town in 2016. Her research focused on hereditary gynaecological cancers, particularly Lynch syndrome, working closely with the gynaecological oncology team at Groote Schuur Hospital.

She has a strong interest in gynaecological oncology, including colposcopy and the management of abnormal HPV and Pap smear results. Other areas of special focus include adolescent gynaecology, family planning, maternal mental health, and the management of endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

Dr Lerm also provides early pregnancy care, including diagnostic support, scans, and counselling during the first trimester. While she no longer offers full obstetric services, she continues to assist women during the initial stages of pregnancy and with pre-pregnancy planning.

Over the past several years, Dr Lerm has been actively involved in screening and outreach work, particularly in hereditary cancer care. She recently returned from her fourth annual outreach trip to the Northern Cape, where she partners with the colorectal unit to screen patients with Lynch syndrome or hMLH genetic mutations.

Following her training, she worked part-time as a consultant at a district hospital in Cape Town, managing inpatient care and performing outpatient gynaecological and early pregnancy ultrasounds. She has also gained valuable experience assisting various private gynaecology practices in the Southern Suburbs on a locum basis.

Dr Lerm’s vision is to create a holistic, empathetic, and sustainable space for women’s health where patients feel empowered, informed, and supported throughout their healthcare journey.
