Colposcopy services in treatment of abnormal pap smears

If for some reason, your pap smear results are abnormal, Dr Lerm may suggest doing a colposcopy. A colposcopy procedure is done by using a colposcope, which magnifies the tissue to examine the cervix, vagina and vulva for any abnormalities and perhaps reasoning for the abnormal pap smear results such as genital warts, precancerous changes of the cells or inflammation of the cervix. During a colposcopy, your gynaecologist may use a solution to highlight any suspicious cells better so that she can take a sample of these cells for testing.

Dr Lerm provides a safe and supportive space for women with various gynaecological issues including sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Once diagnosed, comprehensive treatment and management of STDs and STIs can greatly impact a woman's self-esteem and confidence. Treatment may include antibiotics or antiviral medications, or long-term lifestyle changes.
