About
Dr Marlize Lerm is a obstetrician and gynaecologist at Constantiaberg Mediclinic, Cape Town.
She completed her MBChB degree at Stellenbosch University in 2008. During her internship training, she discovered her passion for Obstetrics and Gynaecology. For her, it is the perfect combination, of supporting pregnant women and new life, but also dealing with potential complications and offering clinical and surgical excellence.
Her dream to specialise in this field became a realisation on completion of her post graduate degree at the University of Cape Town in 2016. She completed her MMed on hereditary gynaecological cancers, particularly Lynch syndrome, where she worked in close association with Groote Schuur gynaecological oncologists.
As a dedicated female obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Lerm has been involved in ongoing annual screening and outreach work for the last 4 years.
She recently returned from her fourth annual trip to the Northern Cape, where in association with the colorectal unit, she performed annual gynaecological screening of patient groups with Lynch syndrome , or hMLH genetic mutation.
Dr Lerm has a keen interest in gynaecological oncology, which involves amongst others colposcopy and managing abnormal HPV and pap smear results. Other fields of interest include adolescent gynaecology, family planning, maternal mental health, management of endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
After completion of her training, Dr Lerm worked part-time as a consultant at a Cape Town district hospital, managing clinical ward rounds, as well as performing outpatient obstetric and emergency gynaecological ultrasounds. During the past year, she has assisted various private care obstetricians in the Southern Suburbs on a locum basis and has gained valuable insight in delivering quality care.
Dr Lerm offers comprehensive prenatal and fertility assessments as part of her obstetric services and is passionate about assisting mothers in bringing new life through natural vaginal delivery. Her practice vision is to offer a holistic, empathetic and sustainable environment for women's health care and to treat and empower women and families to live their best lives.
On a personal level, Marlize loves spending any extra time in the outdoors with her two Jack Russels and other human friends and family. She’s also an avid horse enthusiast and believes in living a joyous and balanced life.
